General Description: Limpkins (Aramus guarauna) are medium-sized, somewhat secretive wading birds of freshwater marshes and swamps with a brown body heavily marked with large white-speckles. The legs are long, and and orangish bill is long and decurved.

Taxonomy: Gruiformes, Aramidae.

Favored Habitat: Freshwater marshes and swamps.

Where to Find: Don't look for Limpkins around Las Vegas. Rather, look for them in peninsular Florida and south through the Caribbean, Central America, and South America.

Comments: Limpkins feed primarily on apple snails, also freshwater mussels, and often they can be approached quite closely.
