General Description: Gray Hawks (Buteo nitidus), also called Gray-lined Hawks, are small gray hawks with gray wings, a gray-barred breast, and long black-and-white banded tail. In flight, the wing tips are rounded.
Taxonomy: Accipitriformes, Accipitridae.
Favored Habitat:
Sonoran Desert canyons with cottonwood trees, sycamore trees, and running water. |

Where to Find: Don't look for Gray Hawks around Las Vegas; rather, look for these uncommon birds in southern-most Arizona, the south tip of Texas, and southward into the tropics.
